String students attend weekly studio classes featuring a combination of solo, chamber music and orchestral repertoire in preparation for careers in these areas. In addition, students take weekly private lessons from faculty members and attend master classes presented by guest artists.
All string studio classes are open to all string majors, and students are encouraged to attend classes that focus on string instruments other than their own. Performance opportunities include MSU’s symphony and concert orchestras and chamber music ensembles and regional professional orchestras.
Students can also participate in an annual honors competition in which the winners perform with the MSU Symphony Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.
