Music Performance

Interested in a music performance major? 

The music performance major provides concentrated study in the following performance areas: piano, strings, wind and percussion, and voice. 

A specialization in piano pedagogy is available as an elective to students who are enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in music performance with piano as the performance area. 

In addition, a jazz studies minor is available as an elective to students who are enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in music performance or music education

Students pursuing a music performance major have the following options:


Supplemental application required
Applicants to the MSU College of Music must also complete the College of Music supplemental application by Dec. 1. During this time, the student's major will appear as music preference in their account. To be considered for admission into the College of Music, candidates must: 
  1. Submit the College of Music supplemental application by Dec. 1;
  2. Submit required supporting documents;
  3. Complete a successful audition.
