Out-of-state scholarships

We know the out-of-state cost to attend MSU is high and we are investing heavily to increase affordability and accessibility for non-resident students. The following scholarships are awarded to incoming domestic out-of-state first-year students for tuition purposes, pending available funding, and are contingent upon students maintaining out-of-state residency status. In most instances, no additional applications are required.

MSU Non-resident Scholarship

The MSU Non-resident Scholarship designates award levels for domestic out-of-state students based on high school GPA at the end of junior year. All out-of-state students who apply to MSU as a first-year student are automatically considered. Scholarship recipients may also be eligible for additional merit-based scholarships at MSU. For a more detailed and personalized representation of how this could reduce your final tuition cost, please use our net price calculator.

Students living in Ohio or Pennsylvania are not eligible for this award. Please refer to scholarship information by state for more details.

Additional out-of-state scholarships

Red Cedar Scholarship
Awarded to dependents or grandchildren of MSU alumni; $1,250 annually for eight semesters.

Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship
Awarded for use with an MSU-sponsored or co-sponsored study abroad program; $3,000 or $5,000 depending upon the length of the program. Award must be used with the first eight semesters of enrollment as an undergraduate at MSU or before completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever occurs first.
