Students may receive credit through Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), and International A Level examinations. Strong scores may allow for a course waiver or course credit. All scores must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the testing agency.
Dual enrollment, also known as concurrent enrollment, is when high school students enroll in college courses to earn transferable college credit. High school students who are dually enrolled at an accredited college or university may be eligible to receive credit for course work completed at that institution. Mathematics courses for high school completion should extend through the level of a calculus preparatory class. Courses beyond these basic expectations that are transferable to MSU will be considered for credit. Students can use transfer.msu.edu to identify courses that may transfer to MSU.
Students are encouraged to consider all Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses offered in their school before dual enrolling at a college or university. If you are a student who has earned dual enrollment credit while in high school, you should apply as a first-year student. If you are a student who has been enrolled in one or more universities after graduating high school, you should apply as a transfer student.
Early/middle college students are encouraged to use transfer.msu.edu to identify courses that may transfer to MSU.

Early/middle college applicants planning to transfer 42 or more completed credits to MSU are required to select a major. The majors of exploratory preference, pre-nursing and pre-veterinary cannot be chosen. Many majors at MSU have additional admission requirements. Applicants to these restricted majors should review the additional requirements carefully before applying.
Please be advised that an undergraduate student’s tuition will increase when they achieve junior status after earning their 56th credit. The student’s fee assessment will then move to junior and senior rates in the following semester.
For example: At the end of a spring semester, a student’s accumulated credits total 55 credits — therefore, they are still considered a sophomore. The student then enrolls for 15 credits for fall semester as a sophomore, paying lower division rates for all credits. At the end of this fall semester, the student has passed all classes and earned a total of 70 credits. Since this number is above 56 credits, the student has officially achieved junior status and will be assessed at junior and senior rates in the following semester, according to the MSU fee structure.
