After you apply

Now sit back and relax, and we’ll take it from here.

You can track the status of your application by logging in to your account. You will need your applicant ID (the number assigned to you to access your online application) and your password. If you do not have your applicant ID or password, you can search for them here.

Status information in your account will be updated daily on business days, but note that it can take seven to 10 business days for information to be processed and reflected in your account once it has been received. Also, it can take several weeks for testing agencies to send scores, so standardized test results may not show in your portal until four to six weeks after you submit a request for scores to be sent to MSU. Please be patient and check your account regularly for updates.

Admission decisions are typically made within eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received.

Edit email or address

If you need to edit your email or address, simply login to your account and click on the "Edit address" or "Edit email" button in the control panel.

Change semester

If you have already applied to Michigan State University and would like to defer your application to a future semester, log in to your account and click on the “Change semester” button in the control panel.

Semester changes are not available between July 1 and October 1. Students may only change to a semester up to one year past the original desired semester of enrollment. Any semester changes beyond one year will require a new application. Deferments to future semesters are not automatic. You may be required to supply additional information, and your admission to the new semester will be reviewed again with the applicant pool for that semester.

Change major

If you have already applied to Michigan State University and would like to change your major, log in to your account and click on the “Change major” button in the control panel. If you change your major prior to an admission decision, your application processing time will start over. Students are encouraged to wait until after being admitted to change their major.

Canceling admission

If you decide you are not going to attend MSU, please cancel your admission to make space for another student. Log in to your account and click on the “Cancel application” button in the control panel. Students who have been offered admission and who have already submitted the Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) can request a refund before May 1 preceding fall semester.
