Predental

Two predental students wearing white lab coats and masks practice using dental equipment.

Predental is not offered at MSU as a major or minor; instead, it is a preprofessional path that students can select if they plan to pursue graduate-level dental health professions. These include careers in general dentistry, orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and other dental health careers.

Majors in the biological sciences are popular among preprofessional students interested in a predental path; however, there are no restrictions on what major a preprofessional student is allowed to choose. Since dental schools do not take a student’s major into account when making admission decisions, students should choose a major that they will enjoy and excel in. MSU’s preprofessional advisers will work closely with students to ensure they complete any prerequisite courses required by their chosen health profession.
