Dates and deadlines

Michigan State University uses rolling admission and continues to accept undergraduate applications as long as space is still available. However, the number of qualified applicants has exceeded available space in recent years, so students should apply by November 1 to ensure highest consideration. Most students enter in the fall semester. Admission to other semesters may be limited, if available at all.

Admission decisions for undergraduate applicants are typically made within eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received. A complete application includes the application for admission as well as official transcripts and standardized test scores. An initial admissions decision may be a "withhold" decision, in which a student is asked to provide more information to the Office of Admissions.

For maximum scholarship consideration, high school seniors should apply by November 1.

More Important Dates and Deadlines for Freshman Applicants

November 1 - Priority Scholarship Deadline

Scholarship awarding begins in November. All admitted students are automatically reviewed. Students applying after November 1 may also qualify for scholarships as funds are available.

May 1 - Decision Deadline for Fall Applicants

All admitted students should submit their Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) as soon as they have decided to enroll at MSU but no later than May 1. Freshman students starting fall semester must submit their AED no later than the May 1 deadline or their offer of admission may be canceled. After submitting their AED, students may register for housing and select a date for the required Academic Orientation Program, or AOP, which fills on a first-come, first-served basis.
