Athletics and recreation

Students at Michigan State University's Spartan Stadium cheer on the football team.

Ranked as one of the top athletics program in the nation by CBS Sports, MSU’s 23 Division I intercollegiate athletic teams make it exciting to cheer on Spartan teams all year long.

Also, MSU’s intramural sports and fitness program — one of the largest in the nation — makes it easy for Spartans to be active and have fun.

Athletics

Admission to the majority of athletic events is free to MSU students. Tickets for men’s football, men’s basketball and ice hockey can be purchased through the official athletics website following orientation to MSU.

Facilities

Students have access to four indoor facilities across campus that house fitness rooms, basketball courts, volleyball courts, two indoor pools, racquetball/squash courts, group fitness studios, a turf arena, two cycling studios, a ballroom and an indoor roller rink.

Outdoor facilities include a sailing center on nearby Lake Lansing, two 18-hole golf courses, soccer fields, flag football fields, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts and an outdoor pool.

In addition to running and biking across MSU’s beautiful campus, Recreational Sports and Fitness Services offers group exercise classes, lap swimming and fitness centers across campus.

Club sports

Club sports are student-run organizations that travel and compete against other colleges and universities around the nation. Check out the club sports directory and reach out to the leaders for more details.

MSU's Adaptive Sports and Recreation Club offers sports like wheelchair hockey, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

Intramurals

Recreational Sports and Fitness Services offers students the opportunity to participate in on-campus IM sports leagues in more than 10 sports. Many special events and tournaments are also held each year.
