Congratulations! You applied. You were accepted. Now it’s time to confirm your place in the transfer class.
Please thoroughly review all of the steps and complete them as soon as possible. These steps can also be viewed in your account after you have been admitted.
Here’s your checklist to become an official Spartan!
All admitted transfer students who plan to attend Michigan State University should reserve their place in the incoming class as soon as they have decided to enroll at MSU. Complete the steps below to reserve your place at MSU.
Complete within four weeks from the date of admission and no later than June 1
The first step to secure your place in the incoming class is to submit the $250 Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED). If you qualified for an application fee waiver, a portion of your deposit will be deferred. Submitting your deposit holds your place in the incoming class and automatically registers you for the required New Student Orientation (NSO). Visit the orientation website for more information on your upcoming orientation. If you have any questions, please contact orientation staff at +1 517-355-8490 or nso@msu.edu.
Transfer students are strongly encouraged to submit their deposit within four weeks from the date of admission and no later than June 1 if starting in the fall semester. Read more about transfer deposit deadlines including deadlines for those starting in the spring or summer semester. Note: The deposit for transfer students is nonrefundable.
Complete as soon as possible and no later than June 1
Once you receive an email with your student ID number and Personal Access Number (PAN), you can activate your MSU NetID and email account. After this activation, you will begin receiving communications about New Student Orientation (NSO) and you can complete your housing contract.
Make sure to monitor your MSU email account regularly, as MSU will send important information to this email address.
Complete by May 31
Before attending Michigan State University, all incoming transfer students must submit all final, official transcripts to MSU. Transfer students starting in fall must complete this step by May 31 in order to remain eligible for scholarship consideration. Visit the transfer dates and deadlines page for transcript deadlines for scholarships for transfer students starting in the spring or summer semester.
Transfer students have been waived from the two-year live-on requirement for 2025-26 and will not be required to live on campus.
On-Campus Housing
For those interested in on-campus housing, Residence Education and Housing Services will open a Housing Request Form in February 2025. They will house as many students as space allows and will begin offering spaces in spring 2025. While they will honor as many housing preferences as they can, it’s important to note that most housing offers will be in a double room with a roommate.
To get access to the Housing Request Form, a one-time, non-refundable $50 housing application fee must be paid through your My Housing account, unless you qualify for a fee waiver from the Office of Admissions.
You will sign your housing contract once you are offered and accept an on-campus assignment. A $175 advanced payment is also required upon signing the contract unless, unless waived by the Office of Admissions. This payment is credited toward your fall semester bill and is refundable if the contract is canceled before arrival.
Off-Campus Housing
Transfer students also are welcome to look at off-campus housing options via MSU’s Off-Campus Housing website. In addition to housing listings, the website shares resources and tips for signing a lease and living in the Greater Lansing community.
